OVERVIEW / GUIDELINES
1) Please print a copy of the Course Syllabus, Detailed Course Outline, Research Paper Guidelines, and this page so that you may have a physical copy for reference. These documents will be the guidelines that we use as we proceed in this course.
2) YOU HAVE A RESEARCH PAPER DUE FOR THIS COURSE. IT IS DUE PER THE DETAILED COURSE OUTLINE. - PLAN AHEAD.
3) LATE PAPERS OR ASSIGNMENTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IN THIS COURSE. Please contact me about extraordinary circumstances as they arise. Just because you contact me doesn’t mean that you will be allowed to submit papers/assignments late. Having to work or taking a vacation are not extraordinary circumstances.
4) IF YOU MISS A SCHEDULED TEST OR ASSIGNMENT BECAUSE YOU DID NOT FOLLOW THE DETAILED COURSE OUTLINE, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO MAKE UP THAT TEST OR ASSIGNMENT. This includes the midterm and final exam. It is the student’s responsibility to know the start and end dates of this course and to follow the Detailed Course Outline.
5) “I’ve never sent anything in late before” is not an argument for allowing you to submit late work.
6) “I didn’t have access to a computer this week” is not an excuse for late or missed work. You are enrolled in an online course. Please plan to have regular access to a computer system throughout the course. Also, please do not wait until Sunday night at 11:45p.m. to begin a test/quiz. If you encounter a problem, there will not be enough time to deal with it before the deadline. It is best to plan ahead and get your quizzes submitted early.
7) The topic for your research paper is due by e-mail as per the detailed course outline. Please see research paper guidelines on the homepage. Plan ahead so that you give yourself plenty of time to complete the research paper.
8) All assignments, tests, and projects are due by Sunday at midnight of the week they are assigned unless specified otherwise in the detailed course outline. It is the student’s responsibility to follow the Detailed Course Outline.
9) Please submit all work to me through the CANVAS environment. This allows me to make sure you get the credit you deserve in a timely manner.
10) If you are planning on taking a vacation, leaving town, or not having access to a computer while you are enrolled in this class, it is your responsibility to plan ahead and complete the work before you leave. If you disappear for two weeks and then say “I was on vacation”, you will not be allowed to make up the missed work. If you have any questions about this policy, please contact me.
11) When you submit your research paper, it must be one complete document. DO NOT send the paper separate from the works cited page. Your paper must be complete. I will not assemble it for you and you will lose points for an incomplete assignment.
12) The time on the college server is the time that I will use to determine when you submitted an assignment. “It was only 11:59p.m. on my computer when I sent the file” is not a valid argument if the college server shows that you sent the file at 12:30a.m. A deadline in the detailed course outline is the final word on work submission.
13) I know that different instructors approach online classes in various ways. Please realize that the rules for their classes do not apply in this class. Please become familiar with the procedures and deadlines for this class.
14) You have signed up for this online course. It is your responsibility to drop or withdraw from the class if you stop attending and to follow the Kaskaskia College guidelines for withdrawal including the published withdrawal deadlines. Failure to withdraw from this course may result in you being charged the full amount regardless of whether or not you completed the course.
EXTRA CREDIT
There are NO EXTRA CREDIT opportunities in this course. For this reason, it is important that you submit all of your work in a timely manner and stay with the detailed course outline on the left.

The following are the guidelines/rules for this course. They are here so that we don’t have any problems which take away from the educational process. They allow you to know exactly what to expect from me and also to know exactly what I expect from you. They are not here for punitive reasons, but instead to allow each student the same opportunity to succeed and to ensure fairness and impartiality in this course.
Please read each item in the "Read Me First" section before you begin the course.
QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS
If you have any issues with exams, technical issues, or anything else you would like to ask me about, please do the following:
1) Write your question/concern in an e-mail and send it though Canvas. I check my e-mail many times throughout the day including the weekends. Even if you wish to call about a problem, please begin the process by sending an email with the nature of the problem, a contact number, and a time that I may call you back. This step is to ensure that I can clearly understand the problem and have the information needed to respond to the concern. In addition, this is to protect the student with a written record of the initial contact and this will still allow us to communicate over the weekends. In your e-mail, please include the name of the course. (I teach several online courses and this will help to speed up my response)
2) After you have sent he initial email, please feel free to contact me at the number listed above. I do have a very busy teaching load and will not always be in the office to take the call. However, I do have voicemail. Please leave your name, the course name, and a brief message about the problem, a contact number, and a time that I can call. I will contact you back as soon as I can.
3) The fastest way to contact me is to send and email to cjourdan@kaskaskia.edu - The email will come directly my cell phone and I will be able to see and respond to the message more quickly. I will respond to emails within 48 hours. Most likely I will respond sooner.
