GENERAL PROCEDURES

1)
To access each week’s assignments, click on the "MODULES" section on the left of the homepage; select the current Week, and click on the desired assignment.

2)
Each week you will have a reading assignment, listening example(s), and one or more Exam/Quizzes.

Please read each assignment carefully. I would suggest taking notes as you would in a traditional lecture. Make sure that you have a firm grasp of the information BEFORE you access the exam for that week.

3)
Exams are only available during the week they are assigned. An exam for "Week 1 (Aug 17 - Aug 23)" will only be available from August 17 - August 23.  You cannot access an exam from Week 7 during Week 1.

4)
Please allow yourself time to take each exam.

5) There is no published study guide for each exam. The book IS your study guide. If you understand each topics/terms in the chapter, including keywords and those topics in bold, you will have a good place to start when taking exams. Be familiar with the required reading for each week BEFORE you begin the exam.

GENERAL QUESTIONS ABOUT EXAMS

How long do I have to complete the exam?
You will have a specific time to complete each exam.  Note: your completion time is measured from when you click Begin quiz to when you click Finish.  Once time has expired, you will not be able to save any more questions.

In a traditional class, I can revisit questions on an exam and change my answers. Why can’t I do that in this class?
You have enrolled in an online class. In this type of environment, certain restrictions have been placed on quizzes and exams: one question at a time, disabled printing, individual exams, and timed exams. These steps are necessary to help ensure academic integrity. If you feel that you must be able to flip through your tests, please contact me about joining a traditional lecture class on campus.

SUBMITTING WRITTEN WORK

All written work must be submitted as one of the following file types:

(.rtf) -  Rich Text Format
(.wpd) - Word Perfect File
(.doc) or (.docx) - Microsoft Word

NO OTHER TYPE OF FILE WILL BE ACCEPTED

ACCESSING EXAMS

Access your exams each week by clicking on them in the "MODULES" on the left hand side of the home page.

You will only be able to access the exams for the current week. Exams will only be available on a week-by-week basis.

(Ex. Exam 1 – Prelude is only available until the end of week 1. After that, it will become inactive and the next exam will be made available.) All exams will become unavailable after midnight on their assigned week.

YOU WILL NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO “FLIP” THROUGH THE BOOK WHEN YOU TAKE THE EXAM. If you contact me and say, “I didn’t have time to look up the answers on the exam”, I will answer with “You should know the material prior to beginning.”

These quizzes are set up to assess your knowledge of the assigned subject matter, not to see if you can look up answers.

I know some instructors allow you to take as many exams as possible as quickly as possible and work at your own pace. This class is not designed that way. Please follow the Detailed Course Outline for this class.

TAKING EXAMS

1) You may only take the exam 1 time
2) The exam questions will be presented one at a time
3) The questions must be answered in the order given
4) Questions may be skipped; but once a question has been answered or skipped, it cannot be revisited
5) You cannot cut or paste the questions
6) Through CANVAS, I can see when you log-in, access quizzes, and even when you hit Save Answer; this allows me to better serve the class and troubleshoot any problems that may arise.

ANSWERING QUESTIONS

To save your answer to a question, click Save Answer. Note: this will ensure that any work you have done is not lost. If you fail to hit the Save Answer button, your question will not be recorded and will be counted incorrect.

SUBMITTING THE QUIZ FOR GRADING

To submit the quiz for grading, click Finish. A confirmation message appears. Click OK. The Quizzes and Surveys screen appears.

Note: you must click OK for your quiz to be submitted for grading.

GENERAL PROCEDURES

STUDYING FOR EXAMS

There is no published study guide for each exam. The exam will cover the assigned reading and listening for the week. Studying the terms at the end of each chapter is a good place to begin although it will not be the only source for questions. Please read and understand the assigned material before beginning each exam.
